Children and youth in Reykjavík can access a wide range of music education through four City-run school bands and music schools
operating under service agreements with

Applications to music schools are
now open. Applications for school bands will open Monday, April 14, at 9 a.m. Applications to music schools: Music schools in Reykjavík offer instruction in a wide range of instruments,
as well as vocal training.
Most music schools offer a wide range of instruments, though some specialize in voice or specific instruments. Submit applications to music schools through each school's website.
Each school has its own fee schedule, but you can apply the recreation card toward tuition. Students already enrolled in a music school or vocal academy

For details on the application process, contact the relevant music school directly. Applications to school bands: Reykjavík City's school bands offer instruction in primary brass and woodwind instruments, as well as percussion and electric bass.
Ensemble playing is central to the program, and we expect students to participate actively in rehearsals and performances. Students also receive private lessons for individual instruction and practice. Applications for all four school bands for the 2026-2027 school year open Monday, April 14, at 9 a.m. Submit applications electronically through
SpeedAdmin, the school bands' online registration and information system. Admission to a school band depends in part on application timing and whether a spot is available for the requested instrument in the child's neighborhood. The application includes space for brief remarks, such as notes about prior music training or waitlist requests.
