On Aug. 12, a total solar eclipse will be visible over Iceland. It is one of the most extraordinary natural events in recent memory. This will be the first total eclipse visible from Reykjavík since June 17, 1433.
Solar eclipse glasses are essential when watching the partial eclipse — both before and after totality. Regular sunglasses are NOT safe. Never look directly at the sun without proper protective eyewear. Free solar eclipse glasses for children and families are available at all Reykjavík City Library locations. Reykjavík City is providing the glasses.
It's a great opportunity to pick up a book while you're there and keep up with your reading.
